WINTER/SPRING 2012 CLASS SESSION

Halau Na Wai Ola is a Committed Program. Students must attend classes on a regular and consistent schedule. Pro-rating of tuition is not allowed. Enrollment for this session will close on January 25th. No students will be accepted after that date as we will be preparing for ho`ike.

DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES
Trial Class (Open to all ages)
New students may take one trial class for $15. The fee can be applied to the monthly tuition if the student continues for the remainder of the session.
Keiki Hula (Girls – two age levels: ages 4 to 5 years; ages 6 to 12 years)
Beginning Keiki This class is for beginning/new children enrolling in their first full session. The focus is on developing strong hula basics and posture.
Performance Keiki Team This class is for advanced-level students and is by invitation only.
Kaikamahine Hula (Girls – ages 6 to 12 years)
Beginning I & II Kaikamahine This class is for beg/new children enrolling in their first full session. The focus is on developing strong hula basics and posture.
Intermediate I & II Kaikamahine Students enrolled in this class should have completed a full session of beginning hula and should feel comfortable with hula basics.
`Opio Leadership (Girls – ages 12 to 17 years)
This class is designed for intermediate/advanced students. Haumana will learn to make their hula garments, adornments, and implements while gaining precious life skills. This class will be physically challenging and stress proper dance technique and understanding of protocol while also integrating Hawaiian values into the learning process. Together, they will plan a service project while also sharing their love for hula with the community. This class will strengthen their bonds as hula sisters as well as developing them into leaders and role models in the halau and in their communities.
Wahine Hula (Women – ages 13 years and older)
Beginning I & II Wahine All beginning level students as well as students coming from another hälau should attend this class.
Int/Adv Wahine This class is for Intermediate/Advanced students and will focus on hula basics and techniques.
Performance Team This class is for intermediate/advanced students. Interested students must have been enrolled in the int/adv class for a minimum of two years, or have Kumu Kau`i’s approval. The class will focus on performance skills, stage presence and etiquette. Students are expected to attend on a consistent and regular basis. Students must also be willing and available for performances.
Keiki Kane and Kane Hula (Boys/men – ages 6 years and older)
This class is for both boys and men from beginner to advanced levels. If you are enrolling only in 1 class per week, then this should be your primary class.
Gracious & Kupuna (Women/men – ages 45 years and older)
Students must have completed at least 1 session of Beginning Hula to attend or have past hula experience (with approval by Kumu Kau`i).
Tahitian Drumming
All levels. Students will learn/review basic Tahitian beats and will drum for the Ori Tahiti class. Students should purchase sticks and eventually their own toere.
Ori Tahiti (Ages 5-1/2 and older)
All levels.
